Since launching in 2006, Twitter has seen incredible growth as more people have discovered its usefulness. Twitter is a microblogging network of real time posts with a focus on sharing relevant information and engaging in conversation. Posts or tweets are limited to 140 characters or less. Twitter can be a valuable tool to market your products or services, but there are still marketers out there that don't understand how they might benefit from it.
What marketing techniques have worked for you on Twitter?

I’m just starting using Twitter myself. But, I find that engaging people in conversation seems to help in getting followers. I don’t know if that translates into getting sales though. As I haven’t sold anything yet.

One thing that has helped me get a lot of targeted followers is posting what people care about. You have to get to know your followers and be relatable to them. What I don't do is push them to buy a product, or push them to enter promotions and sweepstakes with no real context. I'm trying to be their friend not their salesman. A friend is someone they trust, once I have their trust, then I can slowly proceed with a call to action.

I'm really starting to see a lot of success with Twitter over the last 18 months. You have to connect with your followers and be real with them. When I first started out I didn't even try to sell anything to them. I built a rapport with them first, then after I got to know them, I slowly started to slip in some marketing.
