Instagram was among the most popular social networks of 2014 and it recently reached 300 million users. Its growth is expected to continue, which will make more brands embrace it. Instagram’s success is all about creative content, whether it’s an image, or a video. The future is mobile and Instagram is the ideal app for this. Instagram users check their feed at all times of the day, which means the chances to grab their attention are increased. Marketing is changing day by day, it’s time to look for new ways to promote.

I've just started to use Instagram so I'm still trying to feel my way around and see what works. There is a lot of potential here and it's a fairly new network so it's not saturated yet. You don't want to sell to people right off the bat. People here tend to be more creative and visual and that's what they like to see. You have to woo them first, then go in for the sale.

The first thing to do is optimize your profile because this is the first thing people will see when they click on your handle. Use a logo or avatar so people can start to take notice of your brand. You have a link in your profile, so make sure to point it to your website, blog or whatever is the most important place to drive traffic to. If you will be using a specific hashtag for your content, then include it in your profile so people are aware of it.

Don't just use photos, add videos as well. Instagram is more about visual storytelling and video brings the story to life. Videos generate more inbound links than written posts, so make sure to include video on your Instagram page. You can really engage with your audience and get more followers and drive more traffic to your website.

Just like any other social network, being consistent with your posts is key. Try to keep your feed active at least once a day sharing a new video or photo. This will help build your following and give your audience something to enjoy.

Get to know your followers interests and the type of content they like. If they are using your products, how are they using them? Use videos, photos, and captions to tell a story and try to get a discussion started. If one starts, keep on top of it by moderating the comments and responding to questions that might come up.

When posting content always include a caption to add depth to it. Use relevant hashtags to help new possible followers find your brand. Hashtag and mentions in captions has been shown to increase engagement so don't be afraid to use them to expand your brands reach.

Always be ready to show customer appreciation by engaging with photos customers share. Use captions to explain what was special about their photo and showcase them on your website. Your customers are sure to take notice and this shows you care about them and their patronage.

This is a great platform to run Instagram only deals, give out discount codes or even run contests. This is another way to show that you appreciate your followers. By doing this it will give people a reason to connect with you on Instagram and grow your following even more.

Spy on your competition and do some hashtag searches that relate to your brand. Look at their posts using the tag you just searched for and see what other hashtags they are using. Now start putting those hashtags in your captions. It is always good to keep on top of this and do searches every week.

Need new followers? Why not host a contest or a promotion. Ask people to enter by leaving a comment and tagging a friend, this will help you connect with new people that your followers have in their network. Before you do this, make sure you read Instagram’s guidelines and applicable rules and regulations governing promotion and prizes.

Use Instagram’s Explore feature to find accounts for you to follow and also photos and videos that you might find interesting. This is a great way to connect with others who have related interests. Searching for popular hashtags in your industry is a great way to connect with influencers. Start following them and liking, and commenting on their posts. That is the first step to building a connection with them.
