Google has begun stressing the importance of using HTTPS. Many sites normally run on a Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP), a Hyper Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) guarantees that a website is encrypted and can't be hacked. Google is testing the waters in using HTTPS as a ranking factor. Securing your website with HTTPS in 2015 will be a priority.

I can see how this will become more and more important in the future. With all the hacking and data breaches happening right now it does make sense to be as secure as possible. And if Google is going to give you a pat on the back for it then all the more reason to switch.
