Guest blogging is a great way to get backlinks but you have to be careful with it. Google took down several major blog networks, indicating that they were really serious about penalizing spammy guest blogging. The purpose of guest blogging is not backlinks. If a website owner trusts you to create high quality content, you're not given permission to start aiming backlinks at your site. Instead, they want you to produce excellent content that readers will love. If the content of your guest post requires it, then you can link to your own material.

The hope is that your content will be so good that people will link to it. This is what all content driven site owners hope for. That doesn’t mean it always happens though. But, focus on quality content. The links will come if you do. All without you having to do much of anything.
