Facebook was originally created for students, but it didn’t take long for businesses to recognize it as a tool for marketing and advertising. In 2007 Facebook launched brand pages which allowed users to engage and interact with their favorite brands and enabled businesses to effectively market their products and services to the masses. The best part is that it's free.
What marketing techniques have worked for you on Facebook?

Most of the growth with Facebook is mobile only usage. People are using their smartphones as an all in one connected device. Make sure your site and its content is optimized to work on smartphones.

In case you haven't heard, Facebook video is exploding. They are getting billions of views a day not just millions. If you are already making videos for YouTube then make sure you put them on Facebook also. If you aren't doing any videos yet, now is the time to start.

Facebook has and is improving their search. People are starting to use social media to look for things more than traditional search engines. You need to make sure your Facebook content is optimized for their search.

Facebook age demographics have changed a lot. Now, Facebook has a more mature and older crowd. While younger people are using Tumblr and Instagram more, Facebook now has more baby boomers and grandparents. Take this into consideration when planning your marketing.

You are probably used to leaving comments on other posts, pages, groups, etc., as yourself. But a better thing for you to do is leave all those things as your business page. This way your brand will start circulating on Facebook more. People will start to notice your business instead of just you. To do this, just log into Facebook and go to the top right corner and click the drop down menu and click Use Facebook As (Business Page Name).

Most people using Facebook post around the same times every day. This can get a person's posts lost in a massive tidal wave of information. Try posting at odd times before and after prime time hours. You will probably notice more engagement right away.

If you have a successful blog, or other popular social media profiles, use them to let people know about your Facebook page. Put a Facebook Like Box on your website or blog and encourage people to Like your Facebook page. You can also share your Facebook posts on other social profiles.

When posting always try to use a picture in your post. Don't just post any random photo, stay within the realm of your niche or business. They can be pictures of products, services, employees, events, customers, etc. Make sure they are good quality photos also.

If you want your posts to create fan engagement, you have to choose your best content to post. If you have posts on other social media networks that are getting a lot of shares and views then that is what you need to post on Facebook.

Facebook has changed its algorithm to get away from businesses just posting sales driven content. They want their users to see quality content which is helpful. Now is the time to start concentrating on posting quality content to your fans and getting away from sales posts.
